Regulations
Environmental rules and regulations are essential tools used to protect Minnesota's environment. These rules and regulations set standards for environmental quality and limits on pollutants. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) helps protect our environment by writing rules and enforcing regulations..
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) monitors environmental quality, offers technical and financial assistance, and enforces environmental regulations. MPCA finds and cleans up spills or leaks that can affect our health and environment. Staff develop statewide policy, and support environmental education. The MPCA works with many partners — citizens, communities, businesses, all levels of government, environmental groups, and educators — to prevent pollution and conserve resources.
Since 1885 Weights and Measures has been promoting and ensuring accuracy and equity in Minnesota's marketplaces. From gas pumps to grain elevators to grocery scales, the Department of Commerce Weights and Measures Division checks the accuracy of all commercial weight and measuring equipment in the state as well as the quality of gasoline and other fuel products.
Calibration of Pumps
Assuring the consumer of gas pump accuracy is governed by each state's Department of Agriculture or Weights and Measures. Individuals who hold the title of petroleum device technician, or petro tech, in some areas, have the authority to calibrate or retest pumps. Barring any irregularities, registration can be a simple, completed application away.
